Africa Design School establishment is accredited by the Beninese Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Africa Design School school is supported by an eponymous non-profit association under Beninese law.
The mission of the Association Africa Design School is to promote design in Africa.
Alongside the training provided by the school, the association organizes events to raise public awareness of the challenges and opportunities of design in the African context. »

Led by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique and supported by Agence de Développement Sèmè City, Africa Design School will open its doors in 2019, subject to authorization from Benin’s Ministry of Higher Education and Research, with the aim of training African designers in Africa.

Through Sèmè City, Benin aims to train a new generation of talent and foster the emergence of new growth models based on « Made in Africa » innovation. The aim is to meet the economic challenges facing Benin and Africa as a whole, and to offer future opportunities to the continent’s youth.
The creation of the Africa Design School is a response to the challenges facing companies, public services and startups on the African continent, as they adapt to new paradigms in design, digital culture, sustainable cities and user experience.
The promotion of African creativity and innovation as a driving force in shaping the future. It aims to showcase the continent’s diverse talents and contributions to various industries, highlighting the positive Impact African ingenuity can have on the global stage.

International Design Strategy Master’s program at Studio France
Foreign exchange students can also join the first semester (September to January) of the first year of the International Design Strategy master’s program at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique’s Studio France.
To join this program, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: product design, graphic design, interior architecture, scenography, interactive design. This first semester of the Master’s program encourages the exploration of French culture in an applied interdisciplinary context.
Students choose to work on projects and workshops related to five themes, linked to our five Design Labs: Care Design, Food Design, City Design, Media Design and Digital Design.
Drawing significant inspiration from the principles that have propelled L’École de design Nantes Atlantique to success for three decades, this new school embraces project-based creative training, strong ties with the business community, and a professional ethos.
At the helm of the Beninese institution stands Stéphane Gouret, Deputy Managing Director of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, guiding its growth and development.
Caroline Grellier, spearheading the pedagogical coordination, is entrusted with the crucial responsibility of assembling a dedicated team of design professionals from West Africa.
Together, they are committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the job market and succeed as entrepreneurs.

Africa Design School’s pioneering mission
Africa Design School’s pioneering mission is to elevate the field of design on the African continent and offer comprehensive training in design professions.
The school’s inaugural program is a Bac +3 vocational diploma, which will be delivered in Cotonou and accredited by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique.
Students at Africa Design School will receive specialized instruction in creating cutting-edge services that align with information and communication technologies in the digital economy.
As a testament to its commitment, the school aims to expand this digital training program across West Africa.
Drawing upon the renowned pedagogy of L’École de design, young designers will benefit from a curriculum focused on strategic design and innovation, as well as project-based teaching enriched by strong partnerships with industrial and institutional entities.
Notably, there is a substantial demand for UX and UI designers, interaction designers, and service designers in West Africa, responding to the region’s rapid digital technology advancements. YEARS 4 & 5 OF THE BAC + 5 DESIGN DIPLOMA
A two-year master’s program immersed in Beninese culture, leading to a unique Bac + 5 design diploma.
This course is offered in partnership with the Africa Design School, West Africa’s leading design school based in Cotonou, Benin’s economic capital.
Benin is undergoing rapid development in terms of regional planning and the digital transition of its businesses, placing urban planning and societal design at the heart of the Africa Studio’s challenges.
In this program, taught in French, students will work in multicultural teams on projects focusing on societal, ecological and environmental issues, and will try to answer the question of how to put design at the service of the population and its surroundings.
