In light of the current events in the Antilles and overseas territories, marked by global inflation and successive natural disasters, LUIGI D. is called to listen to our instincts, rediscover ourselves, and reclaim our true wealth.
Every culture teaches us the importance of staying true to ourselves despite life’s challenges and difficulties, allowing us to reflect on our true selves and reconnect with the essence of our roots.
As a Caribbean native, his birthplace is Guadeloupe. Its vibrant fauna, flora, and colorful landscapes are its visible strengths.
However, its character is more tumultuous, a remarkable and necessary trait to protect such wealth.
In this artwork named « PROSPERITY, » the woman embodies Guadeloupe and the Caribbean, with the bull representing its strength.
Nudity symbolizes freedom, while the cattle egret, called « détikè » in Creole, acts as the protector.
The mirror embedded in the shield symbolizes our knowledge and evokes the lessons of the past that accompany us and reflect our image. The checkered floor represents duality, the coexistence of opposites in the universe and in humanity: good and evil, light and darkness, knowledge and ignorance. Notably, the checkered floor used in European high places is similar to those found in cemeteries in the Antilles, reminding us of the contrasts that life is made of.

In this artwork titled « PROSPERITY », the woman embodies Guadeloupe, the Caribbean, and the bull, symbolizing its strength.

It is worth noting that this checkered floor, used in prominent European places, is similar to those found in cemeteries in the Antilles, reminding us how existence is full of contrasts.
The emotions felt and experiences lived during my time on the island were influenced by its volcano « La Soufrière, » its rivers « les Chutes du Carbet, » its wonderful reliefs and mountains « les Mamelles, » and its fauna and flora as colorful as its beautiful waters and paradisiacal beaches.
For the Artist, true wealth lies in the lands, the fruits, the vegetables, the plants…the knowledge…the roots.
This is what the Artist aimed to illustrate through this artwork.
