MAD is a Visual Artist

MAD is a visual artist whose work is inspired by pop art, street art, and abstract expressionism, creating a unique and impactful artistic identity.

Women play a central role in her creations, as MAD uses the female form as a means to explore a wide spectrum of emotions, embedding her own inner states within her art. The women in her paintings become mirrors of intensity, strength, and vulnerability, transforming the canvas into a deeply emotional narrative.

To give her characters depth and life, MAD begins by working meticulously with textures and materials.
She integrates humble elements like fabric, cardboard, or even earth, along with acrylics, to craft an initial « skin. » This foundation adds layers of opacity, relief, transparency, and luminosity, creating a vivid and tactile presence on the canvas.

Her creative process then brings her works to life with vibrant colors and mixed techniques such as dripping, shain pull, and graffiti.
These dynamic layers make her paintings visceral and charged with raw energy.
The characters seemingly leap off the canvas, as if they possess a life of their own, captivating viewers with their almost tangible intensity.

MAD transcends conventional boundaries in painting, offering a deeply immersive visual and emotional experience.

The Expressionist movement

The Expressionist movement is an artistic trend that emerged in the early 20th century, mainly in Northern Europe, particularly Germany. It is characterized by the intense expression of emotions and the distortion of reality to convey subjective experiences.

Unlike movements like Naturalism or Impressionism, Expressionism emphasizes the artist’s inner feelings rather than a faithful representation of the external world.

Expressionist artists, such as Edvard Munch (The Scream), Franz Marc (The Large Blue Horses), and Wassily Kandinsky, used vivid colors, distorted shapes, and dynamic lines to evoke powerful emotional responses.

This movement influenced various art forms, including painting, literature, theater, cinema, and music.

Influences Shaping MAD’s Artistic Identity

The ROCK N’ LOVE COLLECTIONN by M.A.D.

MAD’s work is a dynamic tapestry woven from the artistic philosophies of legendary creators like Tapies, Ernest Pignon Ernest, Pollock, Hush, and Mr. Brainwash. Each of these figures contributes a unique dimension to her evolving style, influencing not only her technique but also the themes and emotions she explores in her creations.

Light of Freedom

Light of Freedom is a captivating artwork created in 2024.
This piece is crafted with acrylic on linen and adorned with 22-carat gold leaf, showcasing her signature textured and refined style.
Measuring 70 x 70 x 2.5 cm (27.56 x 27.56 x 0.98 inches), it reflects her abstract expressionist approach, blending vibrant colors and intricate layers to evoke a sense of liberation and introspection.

FORTRESS or the hidden treasures of the heart

Marie-Anne Decamp‘s exhibitions are a celebration of abstract expressionism, showcasing her unique artistic vision.
Her works often convey themes of love, freedom, peace, and spirituality.
She has exhibited internationally in cities like New York, including the gallery at 155 Suffolk St in NYC, which you mentioned earlier.

A Symphony of Influences

By weaving together these diverse artistic inspirations, MAD has crafted a unique voice in the visual arts.

The material experimentation of Tàpies, the emotive storytelling of Pignon Ernest, the freeform chaos of Pollock, the feminine depth of Hush, and the vibrant exuberance of Mr. Brainwash collectively define MAD’s deeply expressive and multi-layered approach. Her art becomes a reflection not only of her own emotions but of the broader spectrum of human experience, filtered through the lens of these influential giants.

Antoni Tàpies: The Master of Materiality

Antoni Tàpies, 391, 2001, mixed media and collage on canvas, 59-1:16 × 59-1:16 (150 cm × 150 cm) © 2019 Fundació Antoni T« apies : Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York, VEGAP, Madrid

From Tàpies, MAD draws her fascination with the physicality of materials. His revolutionary approach to incorporating everyday objects into his art inspired her use of textures and mixed media. Much like Tàpies’ textured canvases, MAD integrates materials such as fabric, cardboard, and earth into her work, creating layers of depth and meaning. This focus on materiality gives her pieces an earthy, tactile quality that resonates with emotion and raw energy.

Ernest Pignon-Ernest: The Poet of Public Art

L’art urbain d’Ernest Pignon-Ernest s’expose à Landerneau

The influence of French street art pioneer Ernest Pignon Ernest is evident in MAD’s commitment to embedding emotion into the environment of her works. Pignon Ernest’s ability to intertwine societal messages and human vulnerability inspires MAD’s representation of female figures as emotional conduits. Through her art, she channels a powerful narrative of human emotions, much like Pignon Ernest’s evocative site-specific installations.

Jackson Pollock: The Architect of Chaos

Jackson Pollock: The Architect of Chaos

Pollock’s abstract expressionism forms the backbone of MAD’s signature techniques, such as dripping and gesture-driven methods. The visceral, almost chaotic energy that Pollock captured through his drip-painting technique has inspired MAD to create works that feel alive and vibrant. She channels the same sense of uninhibited freedom into her art, allowing her emotions to dictate the movement and flow on the canvas.

Hush: The Fusion of Femininity and Urban Art

Hush- The Fusion of Femininity and Urban Art

Hush’s ability to celebrate femininity within the context of contemporary urban art has significantly influenced MAD’s exploration of the female figure. His fusion of bold graffiti elements with delicate, ethereal portraits resonates in MAD’s own depictions of women as powerful, emotive beings. She draws from his use of vibrant colors and layered compositions, further evolving her own unique artistic language.

Mr. Brainwash: The Champion of Pop-Art Enthusiasm

Mr. Brainwash: The Champion of Pop-Art Enthusiasm

MAD
’s vibrant color palettes and playful integration of pop culture echoes the energetic ethos of Mr. Brainwash.

His celebration of popular imagery and street culture has inspired her to embrace bold creativity and experiment with multimedia elements.
Much like Mr. Brainwash, MAD injects her work with a sense of optimism and dynamic energy, making her creations accessible yet deeply impactful.

Background and Training

From 2000 to 2023, MAD developed her craft as a visual artist in Figeac, located in the Lot region of France. This journey reflects years of dedication and creativity, culminating in a distinctive artistic style.

Artistic Inspiration

The town’s cobblestone streets, historic facades, and serene countryside offer a unique blend of tradition and tranquility.
Figeac’s commitment to preserving its heritage, including the restoration of nearly 100 historic facades in recent years, reflects a deep appreciation for art and history. Such an environment would have been ideal for MAD to explore and develop her artistic identity.

A Community of Creativity

Figeac is not just a historical treasure; it is also a hub for local artisans and creative minds.
The town’s vibrant community and its emphasis on cultural activities likely provided MAD with opportunities to engage with other artists and draw inspiration from the region’s artistic traditions.

MAD’s years in Figeac were undoubtedly shaped by the town’s unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a perfect setting for her artistic evolution.
