Farhad Farzali – Tiger is A Tiger Tiger is A Tiger

The opening of the exhibition, organized by Association Dialogue France-Azerbaïdjan was attended by permanent representative of Azerbaijan to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev, representatives of diplomatic missions, intellectuals and youth.

For his first solo exhibition in France, Farhad Farzali has chosen to evoke his country through a symbolic element of Azerbaijan: the tiger. this and as a symbolism of the image of the tiger in Azerbaijani culture and folklore Farhad Farzali presented an unusual artistic performance. 
According to the artist’s own words, his native country is his only muse.
Baku, under the successive influence of the Persian, Ottoman and Russian empires, has become a kaleidoscope of customs, traditions and rituals that he never ceases to question in order to propose a form of cataloguing of post-Soviet folklore and create new artifacts.

Combining traditional culture and folk aesthetics, the young artist combined in his performance the national folklore, pagan past, elements of hunting and clothing with encoded symbols of the past, reflected in colourful tableaux with ancient miniature style and animated anthropomorphism.

Kind of anthropological analysis

The exhibition is a kind of anthropological analysis, in which wildlife and the image created by the woman literally compete with each other. And the ecological subtext lies in the fact that the artist is as if trying to return the « tiger » clothes of the woman back to the animal itself.

A 2012 graduate of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, the artist has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world. His works are included in the collections of the Baku Museum of Modern Art, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art and the Yarat! Contemporary Art Space in Baku. Fahrad Farzali is the owner of the music label GeschenkRecordings.
