SHARE AFRICA
Although the fashion industry is making a significant contribution to changing the way Africa is viewed and its potential is well established, there are still obstacles to its optimal development on the continent.
The lack of support for designers, the difficult recognition of the luxury sector even though it is growing rapidly and the restrictions of means and resources related to the uncertainties of the textile industry, hinder the announced growth of the sector and the work of African designers.
For Valerie Ka, co-founder of the collective Share Africa and the initiative of « Africa Fashion UP »:
« I am delighted that the enthusiasm generated by the first edition of the fashion show-competition « Africa Fashion UP » has allowed to renew this great event dedicated to African haute couture.
The aim is to highlight a pool of emerging designers, to showcase their original creations, but also to help them progress both in terms of their know-how and their knowledge of business management.
It is in this sense that the partnerships obtained this year with renowned houses, such as BALENCIAGA, Sisley and Galeries Lafayette are precious.
I would like to thank these supporters and call on any designer wishing to promote contemporary African fashion to submit their application.
So, what future for African fashion?
