Charity Gala to crown the Miss Cape Verde Islands in Europe in Building A Nurse Anesthetists in Cape Verde
By organizing a charity gala to crown the Miss Cape Verde Islands in Europe, the Comittee aim to support the Chirurgie Solidaire association, making this event the primary funding source for our joint project.
Our vision is to establish a school for nurse anesthetists in Cape Verde, enhancing the health standards of its residents and fostering the country’s independence.

Chirurgie- Solidaire by Professor Claude Huguet and Dr. Xavier Pouliquen
In 2003, two surgeons, Professor Claude Huguet and Dr. Xavier Pouliquen, recognized that the formation of local surgical teams in developing countries was no longer a priority for major French medical NGOs, including MSF (Doctors Without Borders) and MdM (Médecins du Monde). In response, they founded an association dedicated solely to training. They were soon joined by a small group of surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses, giving birth to “Formation Chirurgicale Solidaire” on January 20, 2004.
The need for surgical expertise is immense in African field hospitals, and the first requests came from Senegal, followed by Togo, Benin, and Mali. These medical professionals embarked on their missions without money or equipment, bringing only their knowledge and skills. Their collaborative approach, essential for transferring expertise under resource-constrained conditions, led to the formation of several surgical teams. These teams, composed of general practitioners and nurses, learned the fundamentals of essential surgery, anesthesia, and operating room procedures. The most skilled among them were trained to become educators, ensuring the continuity of care. 🌍
